We struggled with our chains all day. We had them on when the road was clear and off when it was snowy. We finally arrived in Cortina about 7pm and found the American Express still open. A policeman kept pointing at us and saying something in Italian about the lights. Finally he tried French. We asked if there was a cheap place to stay. He gave us directions to a place and, ah yes, he also wanted to know what we were doing tonight and if we were going dancing across the street... oh la la and a policeman too.
