Pasta is the food here, If you stand up, the food and wine are cheap. Wine or vermouth is only 8 cents US and a plate of lasagna, pizza or spaghetti is just 20 to 35 cents. Cheap but fattening.
Click photo to enlarge and view slideshow Venice is fantastic. It was built on 118 islands in the middle of a bay. You must park your car at the edge and get around by sidewalks, gondolas and ferrys. There is nothing like taking a boat to your hostel.

When Pat and I returned to Venice in 1972, she insisted that we eat at the famous Harry's bar overlooking the Grand Canal. When they were there in '63, they could only afford to look in from the outside. Although it was expensive, we decided that we could afford a chicken salad sandwich. It was so good, and the AC such a relief from the hot weather that we went back the next day for another chicken salad sandwich.
